1. System Overview & Interface
Digital signage allows communities to broadcast critical information directly to public screens. The platform supports various content types to keep residents informed.
- Broadcasting Capabilities: You can publish community news, dining menus, daily activities, priority messages, and birthday announcements.
- Display Modes: Each community screen can be configured in either portrait or landscape mode to suit the physical layout of the building.
- Resident Privacy: Birthdays visible on the homepage are mirrored on digital signage unless a resident chooses to hide their birthday via their profile settings.
- Previewing Content: Staff can visualize exactly what is playing on a specific channel by selecting Publish > Digital Signage > Preview in the back office.
2. Managing Broadcasting & Rotations
The broadcast interface is the central hub for deciding which content appears on which screen and for how long.
- Accessing the Grid: Navigate to Publish > Digital Signage. This section is accessible to users with Admin, Staff, or Activities staff roles.
- Filtering: Use the filters at the top of the grid to list content assigned to specific channels (e.g., TV1, TV2) or services for a chosen date.
-
Controlling Content:
- To stop a specific item from playing, select Stop broadcast in the drop-down menu for that item.
- For bulk changes, select multiple items and use the global drop-down below the grid, then click Apply.
- Scheduling: When creating news items, staff can tick the Broadcast to my digital signage system box and restrict the broadcast to a specific number of days.
3. YouTube & Video Integration
Staff can embed YouTube videos into news articles or activities to play directly on community screens.
- Embedding Videos: Click the video icon in the content toolbar and paste the URL. This allows residents to view content without leaving the app.
-
YouTube Privacy Settings:
- Public or Unlisted videos are supported.
- Private videos and content marked "for kids" are NOT supported for embedding on digital signage.
-
Live Streaming:
- Staff can interrupt the regular slide rotation to broadcast a YouTube Live stream on a specific channel.
- Activating a live channel for the first time requires account verification and typically takes 24 hours to become ready.
- Troubleshooting Playback: If a video shows as "unavailable," verify that "Allow embedding" is enabled in the advanced settings of the YouTube Studio.
4. Hardware & Technical Setup
Stability in digital signage relies on proper hardware configuration and network connectivity.
- Core Hardware: Cubigo digital signage typically utilizes AppleTV devices connected to TVs via HDMI.
- Network Requirements: A stable internet connection is required. Ethernet is the preferred solution over WiFi for a reliable broadcast.
-
Signal Conversion:
- If a cable provider only supports Standard Definition (SD), a converter (e.g., Rasfox HDMI to RCA) is needed to downgrade the AppleTV signal.
- These converters are sensitive to power; they should be plugged directly into a power outlet and may require a "warm-up" period for optimal image quality.
